My Journey from Birmingham to Augusta — Why I Became an Orthodontist

Some journeys do not follow a straight line. Mine certainly did not and looking back, I would not change a thing.

I grew up in Birmingham, United Kingdom, in a family where hard work and entrepreneurship were part of everyday life. From an early age, I watched my mother run her salon and learned lessons that still guide me today: treat people well, deliver excellence, and help others feel confident in themselves.

I later studied International Studies and Politics at the University of Birmingham, graduating with honours. My academic research took me to India, where I interviewed senior political leaders and gained a deeper understanding of people, culture, and communication.

But over time, I felt called toward something more personal, something that could change lives in a visible, meaningful way.

So I made a bold decision: I moved to the United States on my own and applied to dental school.

I was accepted on my first attempt and earned my Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Midwestern University. I then completed my orthodontic residency at the Georgia School of Orthodontics.

That journey eventually brought me to Augusta, where I chose to build something special.

Today, I am proud to serve as Founder and CEO of Smiles by Nikki, a practice built on warmth, honesty, clinical excellence, and genuine compassion.

Every day, I meet children arriving nervous for their first visit, adults finally investing in themselves, and families placing their trust in our team. Those moments remind me exactly why I chose this path.

A beautiful smile can change confidence, opportunities, and the way someone sees themselves. I witness that transformation every day and it is why I love what I do.

If you are looking for an orthodontist in Augusta, we would love to welcome you for a free consultation.
